Destiny, 22, is a pregnant single mom to a 3-year-old facing wrongful eviction by a known slumlord, William Asper. She was given a 7-day notice, but now her place has become unlivable the kitchen ceiling caved in from mold and dry rot, all after a week of plumbing issues the landlord refused to fix while blaming everything on “tenant caused” damage, even claiming her 3-year-old was responsible. On top of harassment, threats, and unsafe conditions, Destiny recently started a new job to provide for her family, but she and her kid now need urgent help to get to safety.

Destiny has found herself in a terrifying situation at just 22 years old. She is being wrongfully evicted and originally had 7 days to move, but now she has to leave immediately. Her place has become completely unlivable the kitchen ceiling caved in with mold and dry rot, along with other issues that clearly prove this wasn’t from a simple 6-day leak. On top of this, she has no working toilet, and the constant harassment from her landlord has made her home unsafe.

It all started over plumbing issues that the landlord refused to fix. Instead of taking responsibility, he tried to blame everything on “tenant caused” damage even going as far as to claim that Destiny’s 3-year-old son was the cause of the problems.

She has written proof of everything, but her 3-year-old son, her unborn baby, her younger sister, and she are now facing homelessness.

She made the mistake of not signing a lease, leaving her on a month-to-month agreement, which her landlord, William Asper, is now using to harass and evict her.

William Asper is a known slumlord with a history of targeting women. Destiny has endured:

• Racial slurs directed at her young son.

• Threats involving CPS in an attempt to intimidate her.

• Refusal to fix essential living conditions she has been without a working toilet for just over a week and has had to drive to her sister’s house just to use a bathroom.

• Ignored responsibility even after Destiny paid $140 for a plumber, who confirmed the issues were due to old parts that should have been fixed by the landlord.

• Disgusting sexual harassment comments about Destiny directed to her sister, who also rents from him.

• Constant harassment via phone, including threats to garnish her wages and seize her vehicle.

• False claims that she owes rent for the entire month of October, even though her 7-day notice didn’t start until Friday , October 3rd.

• Evicting her sister and attempting to attach Destiny’s supposed debt to her sister’s balance because Destiny was her referral.

Destiny and her younger sister have no family support, as both of their parents have passed away. When her son was just 1, Destiny and her son lost everything in a fire. She has been back to work since her son was 2 months old, doing everything she can to provide for her family. Recently, she started a new job for better opportunities and to work around her son’s school schedule. During the hiring process, she was out of work for a couple of weeks, making this already impossible situation even more stressful. Despite all her hard work, she is now facing homelessness.

At just 22, Destiny has endured more than anyone should have to, but she refuses to give up. She just wants a safe home for her child. Any support whether a donation or simply sharing her story will make a tremendous difference in helping her get back on her feet.
