Hello everyone - I'm asking for help for my great-nephew, Trinidad.
He's my nephew Emerson's 10 month old baby boy that has been diagnosed with retinoblastoma in both of his eyes, which are cancerous tumors on the optic nerves.
Trini was seen at Kapiolani Medical Center on March 5th, 2020 and the family was told that the only treatment available in Honolulu was to completely remove both of his eyes.
They recommended instead flying to Los Angeles where an eye specialist can try to freeze the tumors, and hopefully save his eyesight, as well as prevent the cancer from spreading.
He currently lives with his Mom, Dad and 10 year old sister In Kalapana, Puna. Trinidad is one of the sweetest little guys you'll ever come across - he's always smiling and happy. Anyone that meets him just falls in love with his joyful spirit.
He has an appointment on March 12th in Los Angeles, California for the surgery. At this time, the tumors are contained, but time is of the essence - he needs this surgery soon.
I'm starting this GoFundMe to try and raise the funds needed for the family to travel to Los Angeles and be with Trini during his surgery.
We're not sure what else will be involved with the procedure, and we're hoping that the insurance will cover most of the medical costs.
For the time being, we're only asking for help with travel & living expenses for the trip to Los Angeles for the surgery.
There may be additional medical expenses in the future, but for right now, we're taking one day at a time.
