On my way to work this morning, I saw a dog on the side of the road. I pulled over in front of him so that no one would hit him, and a woman came out and said he'd just been hit by a truck. I called the police and they were already on their way.

You could see immediately how skinny he was, and that he was covered in bugs. He tried to get up, and crawled over to the drivers side door of my car. I was afraid to approach him at first, but after the deputy got there, I got out and started petting him on the head. He was so sweet.

After more than two hours, we found out that the Town would take him to the animal hospital, but that he would be put to sleep if his medical expenses were more than $200.00. I offered to pay for whatever he needed to be saved, and they said I would probably have to be his owner to intervene.

At the hospital we found out that his injuries from being hit were minor, but that he is severely malnourished and covered from head to toe in fleas. To rescue him he had to be my dog. I agreed to assume ownership, and on the fly had to pick a name; Henry.

Henry is in the room getting cleaned up and they're giving him medication to kill the fleas. I just found out the he ate some baby food! It looks like he's going to be okay. He's very anemic from the fleas, and they're a bit worried about his kidneys, and they're going to keep me updated.

Any help that you're willing or able to provide to help save Henry will be so appreciated. They're estimating his medical bills will be around $1,000.

I don't know what our next steps will be. I know they're going to keep him overnight, and they'll continue to update me on his progress. I will pass everything along!
