Mike's Medical Costs
Donation protected
At 38-years-old, Mike left a career as a financial broker and entered the healthcare field as a Registered Nurse to engage in a higher purpose of caring for others. He has also frequently repeated the hope that working as a nurse would cleanse years of bad karma he felt he accumulated working in the financial services field.
Initially working in the intensive care unit, Mike cared for people recovering from catastrophic illness and injury; his hands healed, his words provided comfort, and his compassion helped families through crises.
In 2014, Mike decided it was time for another change. Feeling like he would find greater purpose in helping those facing end-of-life illness, he joined Nathan Adelson Hospice and continued to touch the lives of hundreds of patients. Providing comfort, compassion, and dignity to those who were suffering through a major life crisis. While working at Nathan Adelson, Mike became even more passionate about the role of hospice care, both in the medical system and in the life of the individual patient and decided to go back to school to obtain a higher level degree.
Mike worked feverishly towards obtaining his Master’s degree in Nursing; graduating and obtaining licensure to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. He quickly set to work, continuing in his journey helping those with life-limiting illness.
Unfortunately, within months of obtaining his degree and at the age of 49, Mike is now facing a life-limiting illness himself, being recently diagnosed with a rare form of renal cancer. At this time, with few options, Mike will seek treatment at the University of Southern California for possible research and clinical trials. Although not curative, the hope is to give him more time to spend with his wife, Kim, and friends he has made in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the incurrence of travel expenses coupled with deductibles and co-pays seems to be ever-growing.
As a friend and colleague, I am writing this request on Mike's behalf, to help offset some of the growing expenditures of his care. Your support and generosity are greatly appreciated and will put to ease anxiety over burdensome medical expense.
