In 2014 my father Marek started to experience headaches and unbalance. After several visits to different hospitals around our city and tests, exams later no one doctor could pinpoint what was going on. In July 2015, more than 1 year later in front of us kids and and my mother, he experienced a seizure and was taken to the hospital. After completing an MRI they found a brain tumour, the size of a baseball. This specific cancer is called Glioblastoma and is a grade IV astrocytoma; the most common and most aggressive cancer that begins within the brain. Giving him less than a year to live the only viable option was surgery to remove the tumour and then radiation soon after that. The surgery was successful and removed most of the cancer.
Fast forward more than a year later and the cancer has come back. This time more aggressive than before. They have only given him a few months to live.
With a loving wife, kids and grandchildren, this a very hard time for my father, and for all of us. Only 57 years of age, he is too young to be taken from us so early. We have started to seek other alternatives (other than the second surgery that he will get in the coming weeks) to help with the re-occurance of the cancer in his brain.
We have came across a clinic that has been helping cancer and other terminal illness patients for more than 35 years. Personalized cancer therapy utilizes an understanding of each patient’s genetic make-up to unravel the biology of their cancer. Personalized medicine may include the combination of targeted therapies with conventional therapy.
Located in Houston, Texas this clinic is his only option. Unfortunately the therapy is very costly and requires him to be at the facility for at least of few weeks, if not months.
We are doing our very best given the family situation, but financially we can only do so much. We ask for your assistance to raise as much as we can to help with the treatments for my father’s cancer. This is the only chance he has to help with the cancer to go into remittance, prolong his life and enjoy the many more years he has with us his kids, grandkids and wonderful wife.
Thank you kindly in advance for any help you can provide.
