Our beautiful sister, mum and daughter Meagan has been hit hard this year with a cancer diagnosis and needs your support.
Each January, Meagan dedicates the year to a specific focus and 2025 was the Year of "Good Health and Wellbeing". Meagan celebrated a milestone birthday - 50 in May and followed up with her first ever mammogram with Breastscreen NSW. She had never found a lump or felt unwell before that. For Meagan it was a routine thing....what you do when you turn 50. Unfortunately Meagan received the news she had breast cancer but Meagan being the amazing person she is, expressed gratefulness that it was found and she took it in her stride.
The plan was chemotherapy for 3 months, surgery and then radiation therapy. But in September, the genetic team at Westmead Hospital gave Meagan the bad news she also has a faulty Brca2 gene. This means
over the next several months, Meagan will now undergo a series of major surgeries, including a double mastectomy, reconstruction using stomach tissue, and removal of her ovaries and fallopian tubes. On top of that, she will face more chemotherapy and radiation treatments as part of her recovery.
Meagan is a single parent who rents in Sydney. She has always worked hard to provide for her family, but with the road ahead, she will be unable to work for many months without an income while she goes through treatment, surgery and recovery.
Despite seeking every form of financial assistance available — including free guidance from a financial advisor through the Cancer Council — she’s been told banks will not give her a personal loan and she cannot access her superannuation unless she is terminally ill (thankfully, she is not) or facing foreclosure on a home loan (as a renter, she does not qualify).
When Meagan asked what more she could do, the financial advisor compassionately but honestly told her:
“Are you the praying type? I think that’s what you need to do.”
So that’s exactly what we’re doing — we’re asking for help and a bit of hope to support Meagan to get through this tough time.
Meagan is an incredible sister, mum, daughter and friend. I do not know of a stronger more resilient human being with what she has faced this year in addition to her cancer diagnosis. She is really going through alot at the moment.
We are also helping Meagan downsize to a smaller and more affordable rental that is also closer to family and friends, so she has the support she needs through treatment and recovery. She has used up all her sick and holiday pay and Centrelink, though helpful does not even cover her weekly rent.
If you can, please support Meagan it would be greatly appreciated. And if you can’t give financially, please share this page and keep Meagan in your thoughts and prayers.
She means the world to us.
Thank you for your love, generosity, and kindness.
With gratitude,
Meagan’s family
