Help Me Sing in Berlin This Summer!

Donation protected
Hi everyone!
As some of you may know, I made an announcement in April that I was accepted into a young artist program called Berlin Opera Academy this summer. The month-long program from June 26th to July 26th will include voice lessons, coachings, acting and movement workshops, meetings with agents, and information sessions about working, singing, and attending to graduate school in Germany. BOA is putting on a production of Mozart's The Magic Flute, and I was cast as the Queen of the Night! This will be my first time playing a villain, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to add this to my resumé. I've received a little bit of financial help that I put straight toward the tuition for the program, but I'm finding that I still have a long way to go to pay the rest of tuition, flights to and from Germany, and money for the meals that are not covered by tuition. I am thankful for my parents and grandparents who have been 100% supportive of this journey, and I would be so humbled and blessed if any of you would be willing to donate something toward my goal. Any amount helps, and I thank you for taking the time to read about my exciting adventure! Read on if you'd like to know more about my future plans!

When I come back from Germany in August, I will be spending one more school year in Columbia working with the angels of St. Peter's Capella Pueri. It is my sincere goal to begin applying to graduate schools in the US and Germany at the end of this year so that I can begin my graduate studies in August, 2017. While I will always love my USC School of Music home and cherish the memories I made there, I have come to accept that I crave a new setting and change of pace for my continuation of school. Some of you may know that I applied to many different graduate schools around the country in hopes of being accepted into a Master of Voice Performance or Opera program, but unfortunately after two years of applying and auditioning, I haven't been accepted yet. I am not going to give up, and I pray that my experience in Berlin will give me the boost on my resumé and the push of confidence I need to make it into a great school in a great new city! I still have a strong passion for music education. My faith has grown a lot in the past few years, and I know I will want to be involved in a church choir as a children's, youth, and/or adult choir director for the rest of my life. Every once in a while I think to myself, "Wouldn't it be nice to just sit in the congregation sometimes and not have to worry about singing???" But I quickly realize, "No, Katie. You know you would not be ok with that." My ideal plan for my future after graduate school involves a position as a church choir director that will fulfill my need for singing children and choral music, and also taking advantage of as many opportunities to be on stage as I can find, which at this point is my number one passion. I'm hopeful that my experience in Berlin this summer will prove to be another big step toward seriously going after my dream and will begin a new chapter of networking and learning. Thank you all again for reading about my plans! I am excited to start a blog while I am in Berlin to keep you all in the loop about what I'll be up to! Love to you all!
