Celena's Alopecia Universalis Fight
Donation protected
Hi my name is Darlene Griffin and I have started this page for my beautiful daughter Celena. Celena was diagnosed with Alopeica Universalis (total loss of scalp and body hair) at the age of 3- she is now 23. She at one time had a full head of thick black curly hair, but all changed starting with small patches of hair falling out a little at a time until finally it was all gone. In all the 20 years she has this disease there has never been any hair re-growth. She has always struggled with self esteem issues, and being picked on and made fun of as a child, teenager, and sometimes even now as an adult. There is no cure for Alopeica. The doctors do not even know what causes it. However all we do know is it is her immune system, and instead of attacking her body, it attacks her hair. We have tried everything over the years and nothing has worked. Health insurance does not cover any cost toward these hair peices. We have tried the fake synthetic hair pieces with netting. They do not last very long and tear very easily. For several years we had the support of the Locks of Love foundation which provided human hair pieces. which provided Celena with the self esteem she needed and gave her the feeling of having real hair. These pieces are made by making a mold of Celena's head so the base cap forms specifically to her head, we determine where the part line would be, the human hair strands are sewn in by hand - which is where the bulk of the cost of the hair piece has come from. Locks of Love is no longer able to help my daughter because she is now an adult. The hair piece she has now has bald spots, and the cap is ripping and cutting her scalp. The money raised here would strictly be to buy her a new hair piece. I have gotten prices from several different places and all of them cost thousands of dollars. Celena and I would both be extremely thankful and appreciate all and any help so she can continue to thrive and I know this would mean the world to her, and to see my daughter happy is all a mother could ever ask for.
Thank you,
Darlene Griffin
