A van for Dylan

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Michael and I am starting a gofundme campaign for my son Dylan (again). We had attempted to set this up last year, however we ran into some technical difficulties and confusion with timeframes, therefore, inadvertantly all money was returned to donaters. We are going to try this again being that we now have a better understanding of the process.

My son is in desperate need of a new handicap accessible van. The one he has now has high mileage and is unsafe to drive. At this point I am told they want to "junk it". The van has had major electrical issues as well. Dylan needs this van to go to his many doctors appointments throughout the year. Most of these appointments are an hour or more away. He also uses the van as transportation to take him out into the community where he needs to be an active member in society. He attends Herkimer County Community College but currently he can only attend classes from home. At some point he will need to start going to campus for classes in order to graduate. Dylan, who is now 22, loves to go to concerts and to the many malls throughout New York State. We also enjoy going to parks and going for drives for a change of scenery.

Dylan was born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This, in general, is a genetic neuromuscular degenerative disease that primarily effects all his voluntary muscles. Later on it effects his heart and weakens it. As he gets older his breathing and swallowing are severely compromised. He has been ventilator dependant since the age of 14. He also has a feeding tube as he can no longer eat, due to swallowing difficulties. He stopped walking at the age of 5 and has been wheelchair dependant ever since, despite having surgery to help him walk a little longer.

Dylan is such a smart, compassionate and funny young man who deserves to have some opportunities like everyone else. Anyone who has met him already knows this.

Please help him reach his goal to help pay for some of the costs of the van. Once this happens he will be able to have modifications made that will provide the accessibility he needs to get around.
Dylan, his brothers, my girlfriend, and myself are so thankful for all of your continued help in our time of need. My intent is to post updates with our progress throughout this process.
