Help Savion get to Nationals!
Donation protected
As most of you know who are close to me, I got Savion into rowing a few years ago and he has flourished! Last year, as an 8th grader rowing with a high school team, he made it all the way to Southeast Regionals in Georgia and placed 3Rd in his event , however that particular event was not an event that would be held at Nationals and therefore his season ended.
This year Savion started high school. He had to switch teams and we were unsure of many things. One of them was how would I pay for this sport this year, as finances were really strained. Hillsborough High School Rowing Club offered a scholarship, we applied and he was awarded it! It was such an amazing gift and Savion was on his way into another season! We have had quite the eventful regatta season and Savion and has continued to earn medals in multiple events throughout the year.
Most recently he qualified for SRAA Nationals by placing 3Rd scholastically in his mens junior 4 boat on Sunday! His coaches, me and teammates were ecstatic! In all of the excitement, I was hiding my nervousness in thinking, how am i going to afford to get us to Nashport, Ohio in 4 short weeks?! Finances are especially difficult right now and unfortunately, his scholarship does not cover his trip to Nationals.
I am doing my best working my regular job as a nurse, while driving for UBER and delivering for Amazon in any free time I have, in hopes to make extra money to make ends meet every month, but it won't be enough to get us to Ohio. I am so very proud of him for making it this far in his rowing career and sticking with it in such a short period of time. This is his absolute dream and what we believe is a bridge to many amazing opportunities in his future. However, if he can't get there, it will also affect his teammates, as they were the only boat on the team to qualify.
I estimated it would cost about $1500 to get him to Ohio and I am asking for your help. This will cover gas, as we are driving, hotels, food, regatta fees and our share of the cost of getting the boat there. I notified the president of the club that I was going to attempt to fundraise and if I can reach my goal or more I would love to give whatever is left back to the team in the hopes that it will help another rower next year with a scholarship and give them the same opportunity we were given.
Even if you cannot afford a donation, please share this post in the hopes that it will help us reach our goal. It will mean the world to this amazing boy to get to row in the experience of a life time!
