Remembering Ted
Donation protected
On the 11th of December our son, Ted Oliver Stewart entered the world in the most difficult way.
Due to complications during his birth, Ted was urgently rushed from home to Jessops via an amazing ambulance team and placed under the care of NICU.
He was placed on a cooling mattress for 72 hours to give his body every chance of making a recovery. In this time we had it explained to us that Ted's injuries were a condition called hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy ( HIE )
At this stage it was difficult to know without a MRI scan, that wouldn't happen for another 4 days.
The NICU and Jessops team were absolutely amazing with us from the second we arrived.
We were given a family room so we could stay as close to Ted as possible. During our time on NICU it was also Ivy's birthday and the team absolutely doted on her all day from banners to birthday gifts. We had a glimpse of what life could have been like as a family of 4.
But on the 17th of December, Ted had his MRI scan and the results crushed us, his HIE injury was placed in the most severe category meaning he had no chance of a recovery.
On the 18th we got our family together to meet and have cuddles with Ted for one final time.
That evening we spent it with Ted, we had cuddles, handprints and plaster casts with our son but we knew his injury was too severe.
Due to his MRI and a clear look at his brain, we made the decision to turn off the ventilator.
On the 19th of December 2024, Ted passed away in our arms peacefully and not in pain.
We got 8 days with Ted. Without the paramedics, Ted would have passed away in our home. They managed to get him to hospital where the NICU team helped him fight on but sadly his injuries were too severe
Any donations will go towards NICU at Jessops in Sheffield and we will be holding future fundraisers in memory of Baby Ted ️
