Hi, my name is Suzanne Perkins
I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and will have surgery and begin treatment within the next few weeks. My sister, Karen Rabin, was in the process of setting up a Go Fund Me page to help me to cover some of my out-of-pocket expenses (see Karen’s words concerning my current situation below).
Two weeks ago, she was in a horrible, life-altering accident with a horse. She was taken to a level one trauma center and is currently in ICU with a traumatic brain injury. In addition, she has multiple broken bones, a blood clot in her left leg, and recently suffered a stroke from the trauma which has left her paralyzed on her right side.
The doctors are projecting a need for intense specialized physical therapy just to bring her back to a state of some self-sufficiency after she is released from the hospital. My sister’s financial needs will be catastrophic with out-of-pocket expenses topping a million dollars or greater.
My sister Karen is my best friend and confidant. I would do anything for her. It’s difficult to see her in the hospital in ICU and knowing the financial road ahead will be as difficult as her recovery.
Karen is an amazing mom to her 22-year-old son Chris and has been married to her husband Rick for 35 years. Karen is a champion horse trainer and shows her border collies in herding trials. These are Karen’s loves and passions. I am reaching out to the community to please consider a donation to help with the costs of her care and recovery, to help her get back home to what she loves.
Please share with friends who might be able to help, and together we can ease the long road ahead for this family. Thank you for your generosity.
Suzanne
Karen’s words follow as she was setting up a Go Fund Me page for me and my breast cancer challenges
My name is Karen Rabin. I am raising funds for my sister, Sue, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I am the youngest of three. I am a breast cancer survivor as is our oldest sister, Michelle. We understand the pressures of dealing with this disease from a mental and physical standpoint. We know that she will not be able to work post-surgery based on doctor's orders and additional treatments could mean even more time off from work, creating a financial hardship in addition to fighting this horrible disease.
Sue currently works full time and accepts all overtime available in order to support herself and her son as he works his way through college. I am in awe of how hard she works in order to make ends meet for her and her son as she is a single mom. She is my hero! She deals with financial insecurity on a regular basis. As her medical bills are mounting from appointments, labs, biopsies, imaging, genetic testing, and co-pays to both surgeons, her stress
level is increasing rapidly.
I am reaching out to friends, family, and to our wonderful community to ask for help. Any donations will ease Sue's pain and the fear of financial struggle that lies ahead. Knowing what is in store from my personal experience, I will do all that I can to give her the opportunity to focus on healing and living. Your financial help will be so greatly appreciated at this time. We will keep you posted and pray that God will bless you and your families for your love and generosity. Thank you so very much.
