Brian was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at the age of four years old. He is thirty-two years old and is the father a beautiful young boy, Zachary, who is six years old.
Brian is in serious need of your help. At the age of twenty-eight, he began suffering from detrimental effects of diabetes and is now in renal failure. At the time this was happening, Brian was zealously pursuing his 5th year of apprenticeship in Electrical Union Local 43, attending classes weekly, and was excited for the opportunity to become a Journeyman. Unfortunately, his renal failure progressed to a degree that he was unable to continue working, and Brian's medical insurance became depleted through the union he worked for. Soon thereafter his condition continued to deteriorate and he was forced to go on dialysis three days a week.
Brian was informed by his medical professionals that not only did he desperately need a kidney transplant, he also needs a pancreas. He learned that the closest hospital that would perform both of these transplants is Albany Medical Center, which is two hours away from his home.
This past year in preparation of his kidney transplant, Brian has incurred substantial medical, travel, and out-of-pocket expenses for his medical care here in Syracuse as well as numerous trips to and from Albany Medical Center.
After the kidney transplant, Brian will begin taking anti-rejection medications for the rest of his life. During the interim, however, he will continue to travel to Albany Medical Center for testing and monitoring, and his expenses will continue to multiply.
