My mom's surgery for kidney stones
Donation protected
My name is Philip To and I am currently a junior in college. Over my spring break, my mother experienced a severe abdominal pain, a pain of which she has never experienced. In addition, she suffered from symptoms mirroring a urinary tract infection where blood was found in her urine. Immediately concerned, we went to see a urologist who diagnosed her with having a kidney stone stuck in her ureter. As the kidney stone is too large to normally pass through her excretory system, she will require a lithotripsy (using shock waves to break the kidney stone into smaller pieces so they can pass through her system). The surgery is set for May 17, 2016.
My family is currently on a silver leaf premier plan through Healthfirst. Although the insurance will cover most of the surgery, there is still a $2,000 deductible in which my family is unable to afford.
My mother has always been the type of person to put other people's needs before her own and try to make others happy. For example, on multiple occasions she came to my dormitory hall to make everyone on my floor eggrolls. She has always been there to support me growing up and giving me every opportunity to succeed despite our family's economic situation. I've always helped my family in any way I can. However, this is the first time that I feel that I cannot help my family by myself. Thank you everybody for reading this post and any contribution would mean so much to my mother and I!
