Jack is your every day 9 year-old-boy who loves playing outside with friends and family. On April 30th he went in for an eye appointment for what his parents thought was a lazy eye. The optometrist found swollen optic nerves and ordered a CT scan right away. This is when a golf ball sized tumor, extremely close to his brain stem, as well as spots on his spine were found. Jack was flown to Sioux Falls the same day and admitted to Sanford Children's Hospital. The doctors have narrowed it down to three different types of blastoma it could be but are leaning more towards Medulloblastoma which is cancerous. Jack is going in for surgery Tuesday, May 3rd to remove as much of the tumor as possible. It could take up to 5 days to conclude what type of tumor he has. Jack's parents, Leauna and Jarrod, are with him while his 3 brothers Derrick, Christian and Carson stay home with family to finish their last couple weeks of school. Jarrod serves our community by working as a police officer and Leauna is a CNA at the Redfield Golden Living Center caring for our elders.
