Leukemia Can't Bully Me!!!

Donation protected
Many people have contacted me, through Facebook, inquiring if I had an account set up in order for them to help donate towards Grant’s personal care and medical expenses. Setting up this GoFundMe account has been a very humbling experience for me. However, being a single mother and my child’s main caregiver, I’ve come to the realization that I can’t make the impossible possible on my own.
As a registered nurse and a former pediatric nurse, I never thought that I’d ever be on the receiving end with my own child. I have to admit, after being informed that my nine-year-old son, Grant, had Leukemia, it was one of the two times that I wished I were never a nurse. The first was when my father was diagnosed with chronic renal failure and watching him suffer through a seven-year-long battle. He passed away April 18, 2015. There can be a great sense of comfort with being naive versus knowing too much. Seeing all the what if's, witnessing medical/surgical errors, the misguided direction that can sometimes be unintentionally given as well as the false sense of hope are enough to make anyone worry with grief!
As a single mother having no physical partner in life to lean on, emotionally, mentally, physically and/or financially, hasn't been easy since his diagnosis. Upon receiving news of Grant's diagnosis, only his big brother and I were there to comfort him. Words cannot express the overwhelming feeling of shock, sorrow, and helplessness as my nine-year-old child looked up at me afterwards and asked, “Am I going to die, momma?” As his mother, I'm supposed to help protect him. As a nurse, I'm supposed to help heal him. I could do neither! I wouldn't wish that painful feeling on even my worst enemy.
Since Grant’s diagnosis, I’ve been unable to work. At this point and time, with his weekly clinic/chemotherapy visits (not knowing if he’ll end up being admitted afterwards due to his lab work results), his steroid induced Type 1 Diabetes, daily physical therapy exercise regimen and any other testing and/or medical procedures the doctor orders, his care is 24/7.
I’ve been overwhelmed by how supportive my new community, in Priceville, Alabama, have been towards Grant, his big brother and me. I just can’t thank my community enough for all their prayers, compassion and support.
If there’s one attribute that stands out the most, with my son, it’s that he’s a fighter! I truly believe, in my heart, he will successfully overcome this hard battle that was forced upon him. Witnessing his daily “heart of a lion” drive, to beat this deadly disease, helps give me the daily strength to fight alongside him.
Thank you all for your prayers and donations! It doesn’t go unnoticed nor underappreciated! GRANT STRONG #44!!!
