Andy’s Top Surgery Fund

Howdy all, I’m Andy! I’m a trans masc nonbinary guy living and working in Richmond, VA. After years of ruminating and working on my mental health, I have finally found myself ready to take the next step in my transition. These past few months have been filled by appointments and phone calls until today when I received my cost estimate.

My insurance is through Michigan, where they have ended the predetermination and prior approval processes for surgery. However, my surgeon requires prior approval if patients are paying through insurance. What this means for me is I have to independently pay for my procedure, which is $8,000 with hospital and anesthesia fees, and payment is due in full two weeks prior to the surgery date.

In order to afford top surgery, I am creating this fund. Money donated will be put towards the surgery costs, hospital and anesthesia fees, as well as food, medications, and other care items needed to stay comfortable post-op such as shoulder pillows, dressings, lotions, etc.
