To Heather’s friends, from Barbara Cox, her mom: Heather asked me to share her current status: Friday evening at a little after 9 she was on her way home, southbound on hiway 1 south of Carmel Highlands when a northbound car traveling at a high rate of speed was passing three cars, across the double yellow line, and hit her head on. The Fire dept had to use the jaws of life to get her out. She was taken by ambulance to the Natividad Hospital Trauma unit and underwent surgery on Saturday she will have more surgery today 6/29 to repair a tibial plateau injury. She had a partially collapsed lung, which resolved itself; a slight tibia fracture [the bone below the knee] on her left leg; 8 fractured ribs on her right side, a deep laceration on her right knee; two broken bones in her right heel, and a dislocated ankle which caused an arterial blockage causing reduced blood flow to her foot. Surgery corrected most of the damage, but she will have a long painful recovery. The doctors say she will be wheelchair bound for some time. She was moved out of ICU last night, which was awesome news!!! Matt and I are taking her phone to her tomorrow, so you will be able to communicate with her directly. Because of the fractured ribs it is difficult for her to breathe and talk, so please don’t try to call her. She is in good spirits and is “Big Sur Strong”! So very blessed that she is alive and has no life-threatening injuries! Please keep her in your prayers, or light a candle, or whatever you do . Thank you so very much for being Heather’s friends. —-Barbara and Matt
Heather has not received any stimulus payments or unemployment since covid 19 she is a manicurist and her friends and family have been attempting to assist her with financial burdens prior to this accident. She had just started working roughly 2 weeks ago. The bills will continue to come in and she will need our help now more than ever. Heather is always one to help others it is now our turn to return the favor as she does for so many. Thank you for taking the time to read her story she is amazing friend and human beings and deserves all the love and help we can give her and her family.
Love Sarah, Celeste, Luciana and so many more Dear Friends
