Westin Hopper’s recovery from brain surgery
Donation protected
In April, Westin was struck with a second type of seizure out of nowhere. He will have his normal atonic (drop attack) seizures and then a clonic (stiffening) seizure immediately afterward.
EEG testing on his brain confirmed two very distinct seizure types, and showed the second seizure is being caused by the brain's reaction to the first seizure.
Additional medications have been tried, but failed. With the seizures getting more violent, a surgery called Corpus Callosumity is being performed on his brain on June 24th. The idea is to separate the communication pathway between the left and right side of the brain, forcing the miscommunications to stop, which doctors hope should stop the seizures completely or at least force them to isolate to one side of the brain, or one area, instead of all over.
