My name is Amarr Anthony Reid. I am 28 yrs. old. I was born and raised in Boston, MA then shortly moved to Brockton, MA. I was on the verge of starting my athletic career when, suddenly, I was diagnosed with a disease that affected my growth. My right hip had to be replaced with a pin in order to continue growing. During my healing process, I decided to watch Food Network which inspired me to become a chef. I have been cooking since I was 8 years old. Cooking next to my grandmother, Donessa Rock, has gave me the building block I needed to succeed in my chef career. With her Caribbean cooking style and my desire for Thai cuisine, I have evolved within my chef career. My grandmother, Donessa, has been a major support in my life. Ever since I was little, she has taken me into her home and raised me to be the man that I am today. I began my journey at East jr high in Brockton, MA, attending cooking classes. I made my way to Brockton high school and met my mentor and instructor Melissa McLaughlin and Valerie Bennett. My junior year, a team of 3 students and I entered a pro start invitational culinary competition. The culinary competition was a lot of work. Even though we finished in 4th place, it was an awesome experience. Principal Dr. Susan Szachowicz took a big role in my journey to becoming a chef. When things got hard for me, she was always there to pick me up and keep my focus on my chef career. After high school, I attended the New England culinary institute. Although I did not finish the school, that never stopped me from achieving my goals and accomplishments. I kept on cooking and climbing my way up to hiring manager while working at Del Frisco’s. My culinary career has grown so much since then. For all the cooks out there remember this quote "If You Can Imagine It, You Can Dream It, Dream It and You Can Become It". I started this company right after high school but I couldn’t get it fully started due to low funds, As I stand here today to pursue my dreams (Food Truck, Catering, Cook Book & Spice Line) I’m asking the community for some assistance. Funds will help me finish getting all the correct licenses I need to further my business. Publish my cookbook that’s completely finished and help create new spices for my line.
