Ivan was a 2020 West Salem High School graduate with a smile that could be seen across the campus. Ivan fully depended on his family and teachers to physically move, eat, and communicate. But while Ivan was non-verbal, and communicated only with his eyes and smile, his family, friends and teachers were always able to know exactly what he needed. From laughing at our jokes, to picking out movies for the class on free-day-Friday, Ivan never let his communication or physical barriers hinder his ability to live life to the fullest. He loved going on walks around the school, saying hi to West Salem staff and students, watching PE class, or walking around the track enjoying the fresh air. He was a true light to anyone he came in contact with.
⠀
In protecting the privacy of Ivan’s family, we know that Ivan passed away Saturday, June 13th after undergoing a surgery that his body was ultimately too weak to physically recover from. It was unexpected and very sudden.
⠀
This account is being made in hopes to help Ivan’s family with medical and funeral costs as they grieve the very sudden loss of their precious son, Ivan.
⠀
Ivan, your smile will never be forgotten. Thank you for never letting your disabilities hold you back from being an amazing young man that positively impacted everyone who knew you. You’ll be dearly missed.
Love, Your West Salem High School DLC Class
