While attending Cayuga Community College, I met Vin Gleason and we built a friendship that has lasted for the past 25 years. After college, we would see each other occasionally and always stayed updated with each other’s lives. Our friendship continued to grow when we became neighbors and had children the same age. In 2014, I started running and this became another connection for us. We started running together about two years ago when Vin started running again after a short break. As running partners we became confidants, supporting each other through good times and the not so good. In this time, I have seen his struggles but also his continued dedication to help others in needs. Vin has consistently put the needs of others above his own, never letting others know the struggles he is personally facing. With all he has done for the community, I ask that you now give back to a man that is honorable in his dedication to help those who need it.
Vin has one of the most giving hearts I have ever seen in a person. With both of his children born with health issues, running not only became an outlet for him but a chance to use what he loves to do to assist others in the community. In 2007, he started Run 4 Life which was a non-profit organization that created events to raise money for charities and hospitals. His focus was to help children with medical issues while promoting a healthy lifestyle. Run 4 Life held over 120 events which helped 100's of charities. One of his main annual events was the Trick R Trot 5k that was held from 2010 to 2013, becoming the major fundraiser for the organization. Vin has also personally ran 5ks all the way up to marathons to raise money. Vin completed the Boston Marathon in 2009, which is a major accomplishment. In 2014, Run 4 Life ended due to lack of funding and exhaustion from doing so many events. When Vin does something, he puts all that he has into it and does not expect anything in return.
Now Vin needs our help. Vin’s humble personality makes it difficult for him to ask for help. With all the support he has given the community, I am asking for your help to take away the financial burden he has endured from over 20 procedures since May 2017. Botched dental work has required over 15 in his mouth along with 2 nose procedures, 2 removals from his back, 4 bladder procedures, wrist surgery/arm surgery, and 6 months total of physical therapy. He continues to need more surgeries and the bills are adding up. His health insurance covers some of the cost but with over $15,000 to cover the out of pocket costs for these procedures, your donations are critical to Vin and his family. I have personally seen the physical struggles he has had yet he still does all that he can to help the community. Along with helping the community, Vin also has worked for Liberty Resources for 2.5 years. He has been working with people with disabilities including autism while having all of these procedures. As you can imagine, this is not an easy job for someone battling medical issues but he has worked through all of it. Please help Vin during this time as he has helped so many others despite his own struggles. As a community, I know that you will find it in your hearts to assist a man who has dedicated and sacrificed so much for our community. Thank you
