Help Pauli Miloni Silence Cancer
Donation protected
When my brother, Paul, called me earlier this year to tell me that he had tongue cancer that had metastasized to his neck, I stopped listening. My brain was no longer able to interpret the sounds coming from my cell phone. My energy became focused on how I could help.
What Paul and his family thought to be a sore throat and headaches turned out to be a malignant growth on the left rear side of his tongue caused by HPV (biopsy results). MRI scans showed that the cancer had spread to some of his neck lymph nodes, especially on the left side. This type of cancer is often curable with concurrent, aggressive radiation and chemo plans. He just completed treatment of 35 consecutive weekday radiation sessions and 3 staggered chemo infusions (every 3 weeks).
Paul was not able to speak before or during his treatments; the tumor on his tongue was about the size of a half-dollar coin, making it hard for him to talk, eat or swallow. His physician recommended a port and PEG (feeding tube), but Paul insisted that he would try to continue to eat as much as he could on days when he was not too nauseated from chemo. He made it through his treatments with no feeding tube. He returns to the doctor in September for additional testing to review if this last round of treatments worked.
We live many states from each other. I am not able to help Paul and his wife, Sarah, with housework, laundry, or errands; but I am able to listen, pray, and circulate his story. Paul and Sarah do have health insurance, but they have accumulated over $15,000 out-of-pocket medical costs as well as losing three months of income from not being able to work during this time.
I have asked GOD to help me set my pride aside and allow for others to help my brother in his time of need. Whether it is prayer for the cancer to leave Paul’s body, reaching out to him, or helping him offset his expenses, we are thankful.
Thank you for your support, blessings, and prayers.
