COVID-19 stole my business of 15 years in an instant and with it the one positive outlet I had in life that was mine. I am or was an SAT / ACT tutor and helping a kid score higher on these tests made me feel worthwhile as it would change the trajectory of each student’s life: a better school, would lead to a better job, would lead to a brighter future for these kids.
I have had no work since 3/14/20 bc of COVID and while I am currently collecting unemployment, that will soon end and it does not come close to covering my monthly expenses. I just keep getting deeper into debt. My hope is business will start again in August, but that is not guaranteed.
I suffer from severe depression and anxiety and have since the age of 14. I am now 38. Without the outlet of my business, the only time I ever feel confident in myself, the depression has become nearly unbearable.
I understand there are many good causes to support at the moment from the fight for racial justice to the end of police brutality. I also understand there are those in even greater difficulty than I am.
I help take care of my 16 year old cousin (and have since his mother passed when he was 6). I also help support my mother and schizophrenic uncle (James, my cousin’s father).
I ask if I have ever helped you in your time of need or made you laugh or just out of goodness of your heart to help me now. I am not sure how much more of this heartache and loneliness I can endure.
All funds raised will be shared with my family (mother, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and myself)
Much love, Sean
