Support Shaina's Fight against Cancer

This fundraiser has been created for my  friend, Shaina. I've known and loved Shaina for over 20 years and I'm sure many of your lives have been touched by this beautiful woman as well. 

Our dearest Shaina was diagnosed with Stage 3 - Invasive Ductal Carcinoma breast cancer.  Shaina has a BRCA 1 mutation, which genetically increases her risk of breast and ovarian cancer. She has been extremely proactive in creating a plan to best protect herself because of this genetic disposition. Shaina had planned to go ahead with a double mastectomy once she weaned her daughter, Simone, from breastfeeding.  Shaina had surgeons all lined up, the last step was a mammogram to make sure she was cancer free. Unfortunately,  it was during this last mammogram that cancer was found in her left breast and lymph node.  We are all stunned. This news rocked her family, friends and community and yet Shaina remains her usual beacon-of-light self. 

Shaina shines in this world like no one I've ever met.  In our years of friendship, I've been continuously in awe of Shaina's strength and ability to love.  Shaina's wisdom, compassion and activism spans many avenues of her life, from herbalist, founder of Yoga Behind Bars, Birth Doula, Yoga Instructor, Healer and to most importantly a brilliant mother to her two children, Finnian (5 yrs) and Simone (2 yrs). Shaina and her persistently powerful presence shows up in countless ways for her community and family near and far. Let's now show up for Shaina! Let’s gather around her and her family to shower them with love and support and hold them tight in our healing prayers.
 
Shaina is going to need at least a year to heal and recover.  We want to take the financial burden off of her so she can concentrate on her health. Shaina will begin 4 months of chemo therapy on July 3rd,  followed by surgery, followed by radiation, and then Shaina will likely be taking an estrogen blocking pills for 5 - 10 years. 

Expenses are going to build quickly. Shaina's insurance will cover a large portion of her prescriptive medical care, but many additional expenses will be out-of-pocket. This fundraiser is to help with costs, including:

• Naturopathic medicine, acupuncture and other holistic healing modalities.
• With Shaina's diagnosis, it's important that her home environment is safe and free of toxins. For this reason, Shaina's home is in need of immediate attention to assess for contaminates (i.e. mold, lead, radon) and have the necessary abatement and repairs.
• Childcare, healthy meals and cleaning services, so again that Shaina can rest and the whole family can get the support they need.
