My name is Ariana Rodriguez and I am raising funds for my brother Chance O’Hern. Chance was born with multiple, complex heart defects as well as a non-existent immune system. His first surgery took place when he was just one day old. Since then, he has had a total of four open heart surgeries which resulted in the completion of the Glenn Fontan. Over the years however, the Fontan has resulted in damage to the liver and his heart is now failing.

Now at age 21, after more than two years of transplant-related appointments, procedures, specialists and meticulous testing, Chance has relocated to Tennessee to undergo a dual heart and liver transplant at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. This move was required as guidelines for a dual transplant state. To ensure viability of the organs, a patient must reside within four hours of the Medical Center.

Chance is currently a status 4 on the Transplant List and is waiting for the day when a donor heart and liver become available. Once he gets the transplants, Chance will still have to reside in Tennessee for at least another year to abide by a rigorous schedule of therapies, appointments, and medical protocols in order for his body to accept and respond to the new organs appropriately.

As his sister, I have watched him struggle to overcome many obstacles. Chance is a living miracle. And though his witty sense of humor keeps us all upbeat, the financial toll is difficult. I have made this page for those that may be willing to help support him financially during this part of his journey. Funds will be used to pay medical bills and prescriptions not covered as well as living expenses. Large or small, any amount makes a difference.
