21 Young Hearts

My name is Callum and I am running the Ipswich half marathon to raise money for a cafe inspired by my brother Kyle who has Down syndrome. My parents are establishing the non-profit café to enable people with disabilities to express themselves, to gain valuable life skills and confidence in a space of no judgment.

Kyle and myself share a special connection. He is the most upbeat, kindest and loving person you could ever meet. He has nothing but positivity to spread across the world. He has unfortunately faced times in his life which not only are difficult for him but also difficult for our family. This is because he’s not treated the same as other people because of his disability. Sometimes people tend to look down on him and not give him the chance he deserves. The aim of the cafe is to give people like Kyle a chance to thrive in this modern day community. Hopefully by setting this cafe up gives people a chance to see the personality of these lovely members of society that I am so lucky to have grown up with.

21 Young Hearts Cafe (21YH) is a newly formed Community Interest Company (CIC) based in Suffolk. Our mission is to encourage, empower, and support young people with disabilities into the workforce by providing meaningful employment and volunteering opportunities. These opportunities focus on building core life and transferable skills in a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment. 

 

We believe that every person deserves the opportunity to be their best self, and that disability should never be a barrier to success.
