In honor and memory of Jose Junco Orriaga, who passed away on May 13th of COVID19.
Jose was born in Peru to a loving and very unified family. In the 1980’s, Peru was facing a political and culture conflict that caused constant terrorist attacks to occur. The internal political conflict between the Peruvian government and the rising Communist Party of Peru, along with the crackdown of guerrillas and drug traffickers, caused opportunities for self-improvement and social mobility to become scarce. Looking for a better opportunity for his new and growing family, he moved to Venezuela, which was a South American country with potential prosperity in the 1980s. The immigration to Venezuela was not simple, and had to strive to create a new life for his family. During his time in Venezuela he dedicated his career to being pastry chef and providing for his family. Unfortunately during his time in the country, communism and the rule of Chavez took the country to the worse. After spending 30 years in Venezuela, he made the decision to escape the intense communism by immigrating back to his home country Peru in 2017. After coming from Venezuela, where the salary for the working class was about $3 to $4 a month. He had to start from the bottom up to create a middle class income for his family.
With more misfortune, his life was cut short three years after moving back to Peru. Jose fell victim to the CoronaVirus, where he left behind a wife, 4 children, and one grandchild. The health care system in Peru failed him by not having the sufficient equipment and medicine to save his life. After his passing, his family was unable to grieve and honor him properly. A proper funeral was not held, because of safety precautions during this pandemic. His family were not able to have an open viewing to say their final goodbyes, and they had to remain more than six feet away from the gravesite where he was put to rest. This improper funeral and burial service that they had to experience, placed more pain and grief in their hearts. Jose’s family was left with medical expenses, along with other financial burdens, that cannot be fulfilled because of loss of work during the pandemic. Today, we ask for any donations to help support his family to ease the financial burdens that were bestowed upon his family. During these uncertain and freighting times, his family should not have to worry about financial obligations, but rather mourn the loss of a husband and father. Any donation would be truly appreciated during this time to help his family.
