Love on Lake Street
With much disorganization and aimless ambition, I’ve taken it upon myself to help plan and mobilize groups of people striving to resurrect their communities in South Minneapolis.
In concert with some other small groups East of 35W, we are collecting donations specifically for graffiti removal and the clearing of glass, debris, flood water, and building rubble on the West side of 35W on Lake st between Pillsbury Ave. This is from about 27th street down to 33rd. There are many small, family owned stores to assist in addition to the Wells Fargo, US Postal Office, Office Depot, Dollar Store, and such.
As of Saturday May 30th, there are thousands of people out and about looking to help any way that they can. Glass and smaller debris from last nights events have already been near completely cleared... WELL DONE! Graffiti is a huge issue along with building rubble and existing smoke/fire. Below is a list of items we still find ourselves needing:
Steel Wool Pads
Rags
Contact/Surface Solution
Paint and Graffiti Remover
Bleach
Alcohol
Step Ladders
Heavy Duty Gloves
Heavy Duty Trash Bags
Long/Broad Head Brooms
Buckets
Wheelbarrows
Truck Rentals
Thank you to all the community support and vendors that have been feeding us and offering water and hospitality. That department is alive and well! Rest and wash up everyone. We have another big day tomorrow.
