Help Rebuild Our Home

Donation protected
This is embarrassing to have to ask for financial help. Humiliating actually. But due to our current circumstances we are left with no choice. In February of 2020 we bought our dream home. We did what everyone should do before the make a large purchase. We took full advantage of the due diligence period. We hired home inspectors, we surveyed the land, we checked every nook and cranny aside from tearing out walls. We had moisture tests, radon tests, insect tests, even checked if we were in a flood plane. And still, we fell victim to fraud. The “dream home” we bought was really lipstick on a pig. On May 2nd I found mold growing on the drywall in our bedroom. The baseboards, the carpet, the padding, the drywall all have water damage. When we have heavy rainfall water comes up from the floor boards. The mold has become so bad that we cannot sleep in our bedroom. It’s hard to breathe when downstairs. After having several contractors come out we have come to find the home was never waterproofed. We contacted our home insurance company and found that the repairs needed are not covered by our policy. The amount of work that is needed is going to cost roughly $75,000, if not more. This includes: Demolition- Remove and dispose of drywall, insulation, studs, flooring, baseboards, carpet, etc. Mold Remediation- Treatment of the mold. Need to create a negative space and treat the air as well as the affected areas. Need to hire movers and a storage unit to store our belongings in until the project has been completed. Fixing the water intrusion issue- Demolish our front porch/roof. Dig and trench the front and side of the house to expose the brick. Waterproof the brick. Install a drain system. Restore the landscaping, porch, roof, etc. Restore the living areas to a finished state. We also need a place to stay while construction takes place that is pet friendly. And.... lawyer fees. This was supposed to be a time of celebration! We were building our our American Dream. We worked hard and saved for this home. We are also planning our wedding which we now may have to postpone due to our financial circumstances. We are devastated. Anything you can provide at this time is greatly appreciated. We acknowledge that it’s hard for a lot of families at this time due to COVID and we are humbly thankful for your support.
