In Memory Of Archie Edward Williams III
Archie Edward Williams III, Class of 2014, Obituary “The Man the Shipmate the Legend” Archie “Eddie” Williams III shipmate, ladies’ man, New Yorker, son, brother, animal lover, and consummate adventurer crossed the bar on May 5th 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic. He died selflessly volunteering at St. Luke’s Hospital helping to ease other’s suffering. He died at the young age of 40, but lived a life that would have sent others to their grave or to the mental institution way earlier. For all his chaotic energy and charisma, he had a gentle soul. His love for animals was only surpassed by his love for humanity. He had a huge heart and was always helping random homeless people on the streets of NYC with food or cash. In his own words, he was a “chameleon in a box of crayons”. He had a social IQ that was off the charts and could make friends with total strangers in an instant and often did. The women in his life were numerous. He particularly fancied smart and passionate women. He loved his mom Margaret and his corgi Zelda dearly. He had a life-long love affair with food. Especially delivery chinese food from Empire Szechuan, Dinosaur BBQ, giant pizza slices from Kornet’s, fettuccine with Max’s meat sauce from Max Soha and bacon egg and cheese bagel sandwiches from most corner stores in Morningside Heights. Eddie burned the candle, or whatever else was handy, at both ends. Lots of his longtime friends knew him well from the 90’s rave scene where tore up the dance floor at Manhattan clubs till early in the morning following day. He was passionate about electronic music and even had a short career as a DJ Pressler in the electronic music scene in Chapel Hill. His step-father Carl was a USN Master Chief veteran and inspired his love of the sea from an early age sailing often on their sailboat out of City Island. He was initially scheduled to be part of NY Maritime College’s class of 2002, but opted instead for his mother’s alma mater UNC. After finishing a double major, he worked a number of jobs until he ultimately decided to apply to the master’s program at Maritime in 2011 for Intermodal Transportation / Logistics. He loved it and worked his way up to the rank of Battalion Commander. Unfortunately, he was unable to complete his licensing at NY Maritime due to an incident where he destroyed the camera of a narc classmate who was secretly taking pictures of his shipmates drinking in port during his final cruise. He was still able to graduate from Maritime with his masters, Class of 2014, and completed his license training at Texas A&M Maritime. Eddie is survived by his parent’s Margaret and Carl Brenden and their cat Que who reside outside of Billings Montana. His ashes were spread over the top of Eagle Mountain next to Zelda in view of the Beartooth Mountains. He was most at peace during his many extended visits there. In lieu of flowers, Eddie would hope that you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for some poor unfortunate soul in his name. Additionally we have setup a GoFundMe page in his name where the proceeds will benefit a charity of his parents' choosing. One of his many prolific Eddie-isms he loved to say frequently was “Push it back”. I never really knew what that meant exactly, but it seemed to fit most occasions. Push it back Eddie! He is not really dead if we find a way to remember him. Written and remembered by his friend Steve Cernik, Class of 2002
