Typhoon is a student team from Alamanda K-9 College and Homestead Senior Secondary College in Melbourne's west. Five students. Two government schools. One shot at the world stage.

For the past three years, Typhoon has competed in STEM Racing, an global program where students design, manufacture and race miniature Formula 1-style cars while managing sponsorship, branding, project management and presentations. The team are 2024 & 2025 Victorian State Champions, 2025 & 2026 Australian National Finalists and this year, Typhoon have received an invitation to represent Australia at the 2026 STEM Racing World Finals in Singapore in October.

The World Finals bring together top teams from across the globe and from Australia. For these students, it is a chance to test the past three years of work against the best in the world. This is something no classroom can replicate, it is like they are managing a business.

Getting there however costs approximately $70,000, covering flights, accommodation, competition fees, engineering development, equipment and uniforms. As students from two government schools, that is a significant amount to raise.
