MISSION
Kids In Nutrition (KIN) is a student-led movement dedicated to enhancing food justice, promoting sustainable systems, and improving health outcomes for youth and families through food literacy and access. Recognizing that lifelong habits develop early in life, KIN equips children with essential knowledge of nutrition and food systems, empowering them to make informed, healthy food choices from a young age. Our work centers on marginalized communities, where systemic barriers in education, healthcare, and food access contribute to disproportionate rates of chronic disease. Early food literacy is key to fostering lifelong healthy dietary habits, laying the foundation for preventing chronic disease, advancing health equity, and cultivating sustainable local food systems.
Led by youth, for youth, KIN’s peer-to-peer education model connects university students with elementary classrooms, where students deliver trauma-informed, culturally relevant nutrition education. Over a 7-lesson series, college KINstructors build meaningful relationships with students, connecting colorful, fiber-rich food to health, environment, culture, and identity. The hands-on curriculum centers curiosity, mindfulness, and self-awareness, fostering joy and confidence in making conscious food choices beyond the classroom.
KIN is fundraising to bring our 2026 education programs to life. Your contributions support the fight against childhood obesity and Type 2 diabetes while empowering the next generation to view food not only as nourishment but as a lifelong tool for health, equity, and joy.
