2025 World Championships in Egypt

Hi, I’m Rachel.

I was born with Spina Bifida and use a wheelchair — but I’ve never let that stop me. I live by a “doubt me, then watch me” attitude. I’m always pushing myself to find ways to do the things I love, whether it’s work, sport, or life in general.

I’ve been with Big W for over 16 years. After briefly trying a new path that didn’t quite work out, I found myself coming back — not just to a job, but to a place that feels like family.

Sport has always been a big part of my life. I started swimming at a young age, then played wheelchair basketball right up until 2022. In 2023, I joined a gym to stay fit, and about a year in, my personal trainer suggested I try bench press. I was nervous at first — but I quickly realized I had a natural talent for it.

That led me to a Para Powerlifting “Come and Try” day in Sydney, where I met the national coach. He was impressed with my strength and potential, and soon after, I was invited to national training camps.

In March 2025, I competed in my first Para Powerlifting competition and won my weight class. On July 5th, I competed at the Australian Nationals — a much bigger stage — where I learned so much and pushed myself even harder.

After Nationals, I received the incredible news: I’ve been selected as one of just 15 athletes to represent Australia at the World Para Powerlifting Championships in Cairo, Egypt this October.

When I first started, I could only lift the bar — 20kg. Now, I’m training hard with a goal of lifting 100kg or more at Worlds. The progress I’ve made has been the result of passion, discipline, and relentless hard work.

But as a para athlete, I don’t receive full funding. That’s why I’m reaching out for support — to help make this dream a reality. Your donation will go toward:

• Travel and accommodation for the trip to Egypt

• Support for my family to be there with me

• Ongoing training and competition costs for the future

This isn’t just about one competition. Representing my country on the world stage is something I’m incredibly proud of — and it’s only the beginning. There are many more competitions I hope to take part in, and with your help, I can keep pushing forward.
