Running was a coping mechanism to deal with my Mum Debbie's passing of a brain tumour in February 2023, it was my escape, evading grief.
Debbie Goodwin was an incredible woman, and Mum - always laughing, and smiling, able to be a shoulder to lean all my life. I miss her every day, and I hope the funds raised to find a cure for brain tumours can stop others going through the pain I, and many others, have gone through by this cruel, invasive disease.
That energy I had grieving slowly turned positive, and I soon became driven to run in Mum's memory and be a better person, and Dad. Since May, I have amassed 2,000km in my training, which has included over 20 half marathons, 5 marathons and even a 50km Ultra.
I became the youngest Trustee for Brain Tumour Research in August 2023, playing an active part in the Charity objectives. Wanting to do more, I conjured up this Megathon idea, and with months of planning, we're soon underway!
15 Marathons represents the 15 years of the Brain Tumour Research, which started back in 2009. 2,740 represents the £2,740 it costs for a single day of research into this deadly disease.
Follow my journey here, and especially on my Instagram where I will share daily running updates, a tracker for how far I've got, and importantly how many ice packs, pains and struggles I will inevitably go through next year in my pursuit of that 2,740km target.
Brain Tumour Research is dedicated to raising funds for continuous and sustainable scientific research into brain tumours, and are a leading voice calling for greater support and action for research into what scientists are calling the last battleground against cancer.
