The HWC Chapter of CCCTU 1600 requests donations to support the following scholarships. In 2023, YOU and many others donated over $17,000(!) and gave it to many exceptional HWC students. Let's keep up the excellent work!

The 2024 HWC Local 1600 Scholarships are:
The Albert Soglin Scholarship was established in memory of Albert Soglin, HWC's long-standing unionist and Math Professor.
The Thomas McBride Memorial Scholarship is awarded in memory of a former HWC student who loved attending our college.
The Edward S. Orzac Scholarship for undocumented students was established in memory of Edward S. Orzac, MD and MA, Asian Studies, who taught medicine and Asian History as an Adjunct Professor at local colleges and in India and Indonesia.
The Beatrice Orzac Scholarship for language and music students was established in memory of Beatrice Orzac. She was a gifted violinist who was able to learn many foreign languages using her musical talents.
The M.E.N.A. Scholarship is for students of Middle Eastern or North African descent.
The Dennis Macklin Scholarship was established in memory of Dennis Macklin, a 20-year professional member of CCCTU.
And several CCCTU 1600 HWC Chapter Members Scholarships and Book Scholarships are also available.
If you would like to donate on behalf of a particular named scholarship, please put the name in the comments: Soglin, McBride, Orzac, and/or Macklin. Please contact 1600 Scholarships with your donation requests. All other donations will be added to the general member scholarship fund and awarded to students, Spring 2024. There is no overhead. Every dollar donated will be awarded to a student.
