2024 Healthcare Study Abroad in Kenya Program
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kennedi Walker and I am a current student at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. I am fundraising to go study abroad at The Citadel Medical Camp in Nairobi, Kenya for 3 weeks in May 2024. Kenya will give me the opportunity to explore even more fields of medicine to see what I am most passionate about. It would allow me to work alongside doctors, dentists, nurses, PA’s, physical therapists, and a number of other amazing professionals; and learn and experience so many things that I wouldn’t be able to in the United States. Some of these experiences include primary care with doctors in different specialities, clinical lab testing (blood/urine testing, pregnancy testing, diabetes screening, etc.), dentistry, triage, pharmacy, etc. This program consists of 15 medical camp days that are held in three major slums of Nairobi, Kenya. The residents who live there are living in extreme poverty and have practically no access to basic healthcare or even basic living needs for that matter. While in Kenya I’d be able to serve around 300-500 patients a day; ranging from infants, children, teenagers, and even older adults. These are all people who have waited a year for this medical camp to come back around, just so they can have the chance to see a doctor. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and your contribution won't be taken for granted.
