2023 Phoenix Cup Charity Classic - Mallory Jatzlau

Tax deductible
We are excited to announce the Phoenix Cup Hero for 2023: Mallory Jatzlau!

Mallory is 12 years old and the middle child of a family of seven, with two brothers and two sisters. To know Mallory is special, she is fierce, competitive, independent and a cheerful girl who enjoys spending time with friends, and loves dancing. She dances competitively as a member of The PAC’s pre-professional dance company and the Houston Rockets Little Dippers youth dance team.

Mal was putting in 35+ hours each week into her training and traveled on weekends to dance conventions to train even more. She is a tough competitor who loves to work hard, and even at 4 years old earned the nickname Beast Mal because of her ability to go “beast mode” and overcome any hard challenge. In July, Mallory decided to retire from gymnastics to focus all her efforts into her dance training and pursue her dreams of becoming a professional dancer in the commercial dance industry.

Unfortunately, in September Mallory was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer that forms in soft tissue. Her family was devastated, heartbroken and scared. But SORRY cancer, you messed with the wrong dancer because Mallory is a natural born warrior and fighter. Mal is ready to rise above cancer and do what is needed so she can be healed and get back to dance and accomplishing all the goals she has for herself. Her family says, “We never realized how the nickname Beast Mal would one day become something so much bigger and mean so much more in her life. We are humble and grateful for our community of family and friends and the many people we have never met who have joined Team Beast Mal to support her.”

2023 marks the 3rd year for the Phoenix Cup and we are honored to have Mallory and her family be in the spotlight as we make it the biggest and best year yet. We are excited to see how our hockey brothers and sisters come together to raise money for this family and continue to showcase how the hockey community will fight against cancer… just like Mallory!
