Burji District 2023 Drought Relief Campaign

• In Feb 2023 online report, the UN (OCHA) categorized Burji District as a High Drought Impacted zone in Ethiopia

• Two consecutive years of lack of rainfall have resulted in the loss of crops for the farmers, vegetation, and water for the animals

• According to the Burji District Disaster Risk and Management Commission – Feb 2023

o 83,528 people need urgent rescue assistance

o 3128 children are on the verge of starvation/death

o 2152 pregnant women are very vulnerable to severe food shortage

o 11,533 animals (donkeys, cows, etc.) are dead

o 845,731 animals are in urgent need of fodder

The need is high, and the situation is very urgent.

• We, the Diaspora Burji Community in North America, are conducting fundraising to help save the lives of the Burji District people and animals

Our goal is to raise $50,000.

• The raised fund will be used to purchase emergency food, medicine, fodder, and restock the animals

• The established committee will distribute, manage, and monitor the relief fund. The committee will also identify and prioritize the kebeles most impacted.
