2023 6th Annual Hood River 24hr Paddle for Cancer

Donation protected

We are grateful for all of the community's love and support throughout 2022. We are about to embark on the 6th annual Hood River 24hr paddle for cancer on April 22nd - 23rd. We hope you can join us on this journey and help us support those in need of that love and strength battling cancer.

Hood River is the gathering place where members from different communities all over the west coast have been united by the Columbia River to support the cause.

Our objective is to bring the community together to support those currently battling cancer with the hopes of getting them a breath of fresh air during this dark time.

What is the goal?
Our goal is to fill envelopes with donations and get them in the hands of financially challenged families dealing with the wrecking ball of cancer. It is a chance for us to give back and help make a difference in their lives, even if it is a small one.

The 24 - Who are we?
We are not a foundation or a charity, nor are we tied to any religious affiliations. We are a collaboration of people from all different backgrounds, ages, belief systems, and walks of life ready to give back to the community.

What is the 24?
The 24 is a community event, designed to create a safe space where we will paddle with and support those who have been affected by cancer. The 24 is not a race. It is not about speed or distance. It is about commitment. It is designed as an event where team and community members support each other and paddle together in solidarity.

The 24 - History
Troy Nebeker from Monster and Sea created the 24. In the spring of 2015, 6 people in Seattle did a relay paddle for 24 hours to raise funds for families dealing with cancer. Their goal was to stuff 5 envelopes with $1000 each, and put those envelopes in the hands of people whose families were dealing with cancer. Their grassroots efforts gave them the opportunity to help 7 families in the process, and this is the spark of why we have continued to do this today.

Since then, our supporters have given a helping hand to 36 families, with a total of 43 donations. We are honored to keep this going.

“I want to thank you for your generous gift toward helping me. This money will help pay for so many of the expenses that my health insurance doesn’t cover. I want you to know that your actions have made a difference in my life” Marian Udelhofen

Why is it 24hrs?
Doing an activity for 24hrs is no easy task. When you are dealing with cancer, it is a 24/7 beast. It takes focus and support to give you the strength to stay and fight. While paddling in no way mimics that battle - focusing with friends, family and community for one purpose is very similar.

How we are going to do it
Our team will kick off the event and paddle together from Event site at 10am on Saturday April 22nd. After that, sub groups of paddlers will be trading off every hour until the event ends at 10am on Sunday April 23rd.

How can you support?
You can support by donating, coming out to the event, paddling with us, cheering us on, and sharing this link with your family and friends. No donation amount is too small - Every dollar and cent counts to helping our families. We will be super stoked by having you there with us and highly encourage you to come by and participate. All forms of support are greatly appreciated.
