We are the only FRC team in Alaska. FRC stands for FIRST Robotics Competition, and every year we are challenged to build an entirely new robot for an entirely new game. Over the years our robots have done everything from shooting yoga balls to climbing up monkey bars. Although we are the only FRC team in Alaska, we have proven our skill and spirit; qualifying for the World Championship or earning the Chairman's Award (the most prestigious award in FRC) has given us quite a prestigious reputation.
We also strive to help our community by spreading the ideas of STEM and encouraging younger students to enter the fascinating world of robotics. We've created children's books and an online video game, presented our robot in libraries and schools, and have created a Lego redistribution site, where we give old legos new life.
However, because we are the only FRC team in Alaska, we have to travel to the lower 48 to take part in competitions, and it is a costly endeavor. Costs like flight tickets, rental vans, and hotel fees quickly add up. Although we do get funding from the state, nearly all of it goes to the registration for the competition, its own eight thousand dollar ticket. We want to ask our community to aid us as we represent the state of Alaska. Please help us reduce this cost for our team members. Your donations will directly alleviate the cost to individual team members and their families. Currently, it is about $1600 for every student. This pays for their individual flight ticket and nine nights in a hotel room. In order to get just five students to come, we need your help! Every bit matters! Even five dollars can go a long way.
