2022 KC Memorial Holiday Sock Drive
Donation protected
When living in Boston, Kevin Carpenter would at random, stop a homeless man or woman and buy them a meal. He would go to Walmart and buy packs of socks and hand them out to the homeless — sometimes even hiding a $20 bill in the fold with a note to buy a meal on him.
Inspired by my friend Kevin’s generosity, last year, I asked to steal his idea and raise some money to buy socks and underwear to donate to a mission here in Los Angeles. We were lucky enough to raise $670 and I matched the first $500 of It. All in all, we were able to donate just over 100 sets of socks and underwear, mens and women’s, all kinds of sizes. It felt great to be able to give a little.
I was planning on doing the same this year, but it comes with a bit of a heavier heart. At the end of August, Kevin passed suddenly. His infectious presence is missed every day. In honor of Kevin, I would love to top what we were able to manage last year and increase the goal to $1,500. I will be matching all donations from now (November 22) until December 20th, up to $750.
