Desserts For Scholarships

Hey, I am fundraising for African American students who want to college but need a bit of help doing so!

Here is my story:

As a college student, my parents had no money to help. While I had a job, it was not enough to cover the total cost of college. I was cautious about taking on too much student loan debt, so I sought out scholarships. And won a few of them. Every $250, $500, and $1,000 plus scholarship lifted a load off my shoulders.

When my kids went to college, I took the same approach. They worked to pay for some fees, and as parents, we paid for some fees, but big chunks were covered by scholarships – one for as much as $20,000 and others as small as $250. It all helped.

Both of my kids graduated college and have little student loan debt to pay.

They have been able to start life after college without the burden of paying back debt. It has been life-changing for them!

Now it's my turn to provide a life-changing opportunity for a young person who wants to go to college and just needs a bit of help doing so.

I decided I wanted to do that for more kids. So, in 2020, I started Desserts For Scholarships. It is a fundraiser I do during my birthday week "National Week of Vette."

During this week, I ask people to make donations to support scholarships for students.

In the last two years, African American students have received $2,000 in scholarships.

For 2022, I want to raise $2,000 to provide three students with a scholarship of $250, $500, or $1,000. Our target schools are Fisk University, Miami University, and the University of Dayton.

I am asking at least 52 people to join me in giving at one of the levels to ensure 3 students receive scholarships this year.

This fundraiser runs from November 1 to November 19th (National Week of Vette (my birthday week) is from November 13th to November 19th).
