2021 Galens Virtual Smoker Fundraising

Galens Medical Society is excited to present the 103rd annual Smoker: a beloved Michigan Medical School tradition in which medical students write, produce, and perform a musical roast of our faculty/institution/medicine at large. This year marks another milestone: the first ever Smoker Movie. 

In lieu of buying a ticket this year, we strongly encourage you to donate if able. Everyone who donates before 3/31/2021 will have their name featured in our playbill, and everyone who donates at the patron level ($100+) will have their name featured in the credits of the film. Your donations to the Smoker will help us cover the cost of equipment and editing ($15,000 total), while ensuring that the Smoker can be free to access for everyone who could use a laugh.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Smoker looks a bit different from previous years. Instead of a traditional stage production, we have adapted to create a film made from the safety of our own homes! In a time when isolation and stress have been overwhelming, the Smoker provides a space for community and creativity. Now more than ever, we want to ensure that the Smoker is accessible to everyone. This year, the Smoker will be free to access: financial barriers shouldn't stand in the way of enjoying this tradition.  The premier of this year’s virtual show will be some time in April to account for editing and post-production of the movie (details to be released).
