2021 Fast Cash June Scholarship

The 2021 Fast Cash June Scholarship was created last year in honor of heaven’s latest Angel, Antonio Burnett Jr. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Antonio was a stellar student-athlete and creative! I had the honor to meet and teach Antonio his senior year at Calvin Coolidge High School. I, among the rest of his peers, thoroughly enjoyed the charisma that Antonio brought to our 2 period English class. When the COVID-19 pandemic began, Antonio didn't back down, if anything he turned up the fire and was the first student to always submit quality distant learning assignments. It is safe to say that he humbly shined on every platform, which positioned him to be ready for graduation in June 2020!
However the tables turned rapidly during the heat of the global pandemic. Antonio was tragically murdered before dawn on Easter Sunday, April 13th 2020, leaving thousands of family and friends to wake up to the life altering news. What should have been a day of family celebration, instantly became a day full of mourning. The weight of this hurt continues throughout his native community, but his legacy will live on.
As a result, I created an annual scholarship in honor of Antonio to give graduating high school seniors across the nation an opportunity to financially support their journeys. Last year, I provided the $2,000 scholarship money to two deserving recipients: Richard Bangura and Luis Perez.

Unfortunately, a month after after awarding Richard his scholarship, he was murdered a week prior to leaving to Temple University. Richard was Antonio’s cousin and was eager to live a life that was different than his upbringing . It was at this moment that I knew this scholarship was more than honoring Antonio, but to help high school students get out of situations that stifle their freedom, manipulate their will power, and wrongly influence their gifts. Richard, knew he had to leave:

It is now a mission of mine to not only increase the amount of recipients but to award more scholarship money in the years to come. I have a burning desire to inspire change within inner city youths across America through Lowe Crew; the Fast Cash June Scholarship is just one of many ways that I plan to deliver such change.
But this year, I am unable to personally finance the 2021 Fast Cash June Scholarship due to an unforeseen $20,000 pay cut working as a full-time teacher in Baltimore City School District. After fighting to get my salary adjusted, there has been no success. To further avoid this financial hardship, I am currently in the process to transition. Although my transition is unknown, the mission to help others is clear!
If you could help support this years 2021 Fast Cash June Scholarship award, I don't think you would understand how much it would mean to me. I am asking for $2,000 to divide and provide $1,000 to the two awarded recipients by June 25th, 2020. All donations will go directly to the awarded recipients.
If you know a graduating high school senior within the United States who would be a great candidate for this scholarship, please encourage them to apply: 2021 Fast Cash June Scholarship . Let’s stand together and support the youth as they are working harder than ever to become more than just their struggles!
Thank you so very much! God bless you!
