2020 World Championships Continuation Project

Donation protected
The 30th Anniversary WPA World Powerlifting Championships were originally scheduled to take place in St. Therese, Quebec, Canada in September. The event cannot be held in Canada due to covid-19 business shutdowns and large social gathering restrictions that will be in place for a very lengthy period of time.

I have been running APA (American Powerlifting Association) competitions and WPA events for our governing body WPA (World Powerlifting Alliance) since the organizations were founded in the 80's. Each year we rotate which country will host the World Championships. This year it is an impossibility due to the covid-19 virus.

I have devised a unique and innovative way for the 2020 World Championships to still take place as planned.  In many cases, international travel is an impossibility, some borders are closed for lengthy periods of time, and economies have been effected globally.

This   concept/format will also allow athletes who cannot afford the travel expenses associated with international travel to still participate. It will remove the  expenses commonly associated with competing in international events. Athletes will not have to travel out of their countries to compete.

The 2020 World Championships will take place in multiple locations simultaneously during the date range of September 12-20. The individuals helping coordinate WPA World Championships at various locations during the specified timeline include:

Arjun Gulati - President of the India Power Sports Association
Francesco Lo Porto - President of WPA Italy
Roy Mubiru - President of the African Continental Powerlifting Alliance
Scott Taylor - APA President/WPA Chief Executive Officer
Sebastien Grenier - President of the Canadian Powerlifting Association
Ryan Cidzik - THOR3 Human Performance Coordinator at Joint Base Lewis–McChord Army Base
Nathan Ahrens - Lieutenant Commander US Navy
Terry Harcleroad - APA New York State Chairman
Coach Phil Carr President of Arsenal Athletics
Michael McGee - APA Northeast Regional Chairman
Jim Ford - APA Massachusetts State Chairman
Dan Leidheiser - US Army (APA Washington Co-State Chairman)
Howard Olsen - APA Washington Co-State Chairman.
Coach Bob Levy - Team Captain: US Powerlifting Team
Brian Phillips - Coordinator at Missouri site location of World Championships
Mark Messer - APA Ohio State Chairman

Other individuals  from various locations across the globe will be joining us in this project. They are in the process of setting up sites to host the lifting in their countries. Once they have set up we will be announcing them. Some of the spots already set up to host lifting include:

Italy
Uganda, Africa
 Dehra Dun, India
Clinton, Missouri USA
Martinsburg, West Virginia, USA
Honolulu, Hawaii, Island of Oahu
Tacoma, Washington, USA
Chandler, Arizona, USA
Oakville, Connecticut, USA
Lebanon, Ohio, USA
Armenia (Pending depending on determination of Armenian government)
*Several more locations to be added soon!

I am trying to generate funds to run this unique endeavor. There will be many expenses involved. This includes production and design of special World Championships Anniversary awards, providing and training of a large staff at multiple locations to assure the event runs smooth, drug testing at multiple locations, purchasing, shipping, and providing contest related equipment and awards to host locations running the event, and providing officials for all event locations. I would also like to contribute a portion of the proceeds to donating singlets and other required gear to the lifters from Uganda and other nations whose lifters cannot afford the uniform required to participate in this event.

25 years ago I tried a similar project and incorporated an internet category into a powerlifting event for those who could not afford international travel to the event.

The internet was much younger in those days and communication tools were less advanced and communications were not instant as they are in this day and age. Regardless, the project met success. I was a bit ahead of my times.

Internet technology has come a long way since that time and software to run events has improved significantly.

The  times have changed and now is the time to take things to the next level and make the 2020 World Championships a reality regardless of the impact of covid-19 globally.

While many major events have been cancelled due to the covid-19 virus, the 2020 WPA World Championships will still take place!
