2020 has been a rough year for everyone and that includes Tails From The City.
Earlier this year we determined we would not be able to pull off our Fifth Annual Cinco de Meow (CdM) fundraising event (which would have had to have been cancelled anyway), but plans were in the works for a new, fall fundraiser. Knowing that CdM net us about $20,000 the past couple of years we knew we'd have to come up with something cool and we think we did. Now we know our fall fundraiser is not feasible in the way we imagined. If we can pull off a little something we will: we miss seeing so many cat lovers all in one place, we miss you!
While we're able to continue to help cats and kittens in need (last year we adopted out almost 600 cats and kittens!) our all volunteer run rescue incurred some pretty high, unexpected medical bills just in the first several months of 2020.
Attached are a couple stories of a couple of moms and their kittens that needed emergency medical intervention to save them:
Veronica showed signs of labor, timing was right but 24 hours later and no kittens and she was rushed to emergency care where they performed an emergency C-section. She delivered five, healthy kittens. Veronica and her kittens stayed for observation overnight but were well enough to move to foster. The whole family is still in foster and all will be available for adoption in a couple of months.
Our next unexpected emergency medical case was Emma and her two kittens: Panda and Cindy. Emma was hospitalized under emergency care when it became clear to her foster that she wasn't doing well (Panda and Cindy were already twelve weeks old and seemed fine). Turns out Emma had some sort of unusual viral infection, and the girls came down with it, too. The threesome stayed in the hospital together for about a week and returned to foster care healthy. All three have pending adoptions!

We are so grateful to our amazing foster families and the medical teams that help us care for our cats and kittens when they need it. Every penny spent is always worth it but these visits alone cost us just about $3500.
The requests for intake have been nonstop, as of April we have taken in over 175 cats and kittens. As of right now we have 75 kittens in our care. The requests (literally) never stop and we do all that we can to help as often as is feasible. Right now we need your help.
Your donation enables us to continue to say 'yes'.
You've heard it time and again but only because it's true: every donation, whether it be $5, $10, $25, $100: anything in between and anything beyond: It all adds up and it all matters. If you can't give, maybe you can share. We've set a hefty goal, we know times are tough for so many, we appreciate all gifts we receive, especially now. Know that every dollar helps us continue to do what we do.
If you're interested in adopting please contact us at [email redacted]. We are currently scheduling appointments one at a time and can still help you bring home your next family member.
Thank you for your consideration. During these strange times we are so grateful for all of our supporters and volunteers, foster families and medical teams. We hope all of them and all of you are healthy and stay healthy.
