I started racing cyclocross when I was 10 years old and at that time all I knew was I loved to ride my bike. In my first race I got last place but I loved every minute of that race. The fun I experienced in that one race has had a lasting impact on my life. I have raced for 7 years now and love the sport of cyclocross. I have been watching European cyclocross since starting racing and I remember watching races and seeing stars such as Sven Nys, Lars van der haar, and Wout Van Aert just going at it on the cross course in front of thousands of fans and thinking to myself that's what I want to do.
Coming into the 2018/19 cyclcoross season I was unsure of what would happen. I was a first year junior and had mostly raced locally. I went out to Cincinnati for my First UCI race with the goal in mind of getting one single UCI point from the weekend. On the first day I was nervous about how it would go and in the first turn I crashed and was 30 seconds down and in last place. I was devastated and thinking how could this happen to me? After the crash I decided I would go out and have some fun on the course and try to pass as many people as possible. I started making my way through the field and before I knew it I was in the top ten and then 5th and then 3rd and then with one lap to go I found myself on the front of the race and was able to hold that to win. I've realized that perseverance pays off and most importantly that when I am having fun good things happen.
When I got the invitation to go to the Cyclocross World Championships as one of the juniors representing the United States I was ecstatic. This opportunity proved to me that hard work does pay off, in this case accomplishing one of my long time goals of racing in Europe goals, even better representing the USA.
To help achieve my goal of racing in Europe, I made this Gofundme to help with the expenses of travel, food, transportation, fees, and so much more that is involved with racing in a foreign country. I will be racing the World Cup in PontChateau, France then the world cup in Hoogerhiede, Netherlands and finally ending the trip with the World Championships in Bogense, Denmark.
I wouldn't be here without the help of a lot of people to include my family, friends, Mike Birner and my Sportif Coaching Group cycling family, CTS Coaching for all the CX race support and sponsor assistance from Organic Valley, Boyd Cycling, Hincapie, and DeFeet to name a few. Thank you to everyone for supporting me in my cycling journey.
