Azores Football Academy (AFA) has been invited to compete in one of the most prestigious youth soccer tournaments in Europe: The Pauleta Azores Soccer Cup U13. AFA is a select U13 team from Boston, Massachusetts made up of players who went through rigorous tryouts to make the final roster that will be traveling to compete in this tournament in May of 2019.
The Pauleta Azores Cup is hosted by Pedro Pauleta on the small island of São Miguel in the Azores. Pedro Pauleta, one of the most decorated strikers in the history of Portuguese and European Football has represented some of the biggest clubs in the world including, Deportivo La Coruña, Bordeaux, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Pedro Pauleta was born and raised on the small island of São Miguel and once retired he created the Pauleta foundation for the children of the island to have a facility and opportunity to play football. Once a year, the Pauleta Foundation hosts this invitational only tournament, where young players who share the same dream as the young Pedro Pauleta of playing professional soccer have the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of many professional coaches and club representatives.
Recent teams who have attended the tournament are FC Barcelona, Inter Milan, Benfica, Sporting, FC Porto, PSG and many more. It is a rare opportunity that a team from the United States is selected to compete in a European tournament of this level. AFA's founder, Luis Cabral is also from the island of São Miguel and currently resides in Massachusetts. Coach Luis is excited to present his team with a once in a lifetime opportunity to play against some of the best youth talents in the world.
AFA's goal is to provide these young boys the opportunity to experience another culture while being able to compete with the best academies in the world.
In order to make this dream a reality, we are looking for your help to keep the costs down for these young, talented, dreamers of the beautiful game.
Funds will be used to cover the overall cost of the trip.
