I'm very proud that members and friends of Ladies Love Taildraggers have a tradition of 'paying it back'. We pay it back by mentoring new and existing tailwheel pilots and by constantly encouraging more people to fly tailwheel aircraft. In the realm of taildragging, our members shine, particularly when it comes to encouraging and helping others, be they male or female.
Over the last few years we've awarded many scholarships to women who are passionate about flying, especially tailwheel flying. These women have benefited from our scholarships, many going on to provide taildragger instruction themselves as CFI's, honing their flying skills, and encouraging more people to fly taildraggers.
My goal is to continue that tradition by awarding more scholarships to women pilots in early 2019. This year, 2018, we made the bold and significant move of using only women CFI's in our scholarship program. It was a difficult decision since there are many fantastic male CFI's available, including a couple who've been unwavering supporters of our organization. But the time has come for women to step up to the plate and support each other. Gentlemen, we thank you.
I have a new plan up my sleeve for 2019 scholarships, hopefully that fine-tunes our process even better and allows candidates with the most need to be rewarded.
Beyond GoFundMe, we still need female CFI's willing and able to donate an aircraft and/or flight instruction to this great cause. For each scholarship we will cover $600 in travel expenses for the winner. Please contact me with questions or comments.
